It\u00a0turned\u00a0out\u00a0that\u00a0the\u00a0castle\u00a0had\u00a0a\u00a0long\u00a0history\u00a0of\u00a0producing\u00a0wine:\u00a0ancient\u00a0wine\u00a0cellars\u00a0beneath\u00a0the\u00a0structure\u00a0were\u00a0found,\u00a0where\u00a0the\u00a0Carmelites\u00a0had\u00a0been\u00a0producing\u00a0wine\u00a0since\u00a0the\u00a0Middle\u00a0AgesMiguel&#8217;s\u00a0greatest\u00a0ambition\u00a0was\u00a0to\u00a0bring\u00a0back\u00a0this\u00a0age-old\u00a0custom.<\/p>\n<p>Three\u00a0generations\u00a0later,\u00a0Castillo\u00a0Perelada\u00a0is\u00a0now\u00a0recognized\u00a0as\u00a0one\u00a0of\u00a0Empord\u00e0&#8217;s\u00a0most\u00a0significant\u00a0wine\u00a0estates. Greek\u00a0settlers\u00a0established\u00a0the\u00a0region&#8217;s\u00a0first\u00a0vines\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0sixth\u00a0century\u00a0BC,\u00a0giving\u00a0the\u00a0DO\u00a0Empord\u00e0,\u00a0in\u00a0addition\u00a0to\u00a0Perelada,\u00a0a\u00a0long\u00a0history\u00a0of\u00a0wine\u00a0production. The\u00a0Romans\u00a0and\u00a0then\u00a0the\u00a0Benedictines\u00a0continued\u00a0to\u00a0develop\u00a0these\u00a0vines.
