Het bleek dat het kasteel een lange geschiedenis van wijnproductie kende: onder het gebouw werden oude wijnkelders ontdekt, waar de karmelieten sinds de Middeleeuwen wijn hadden gemaakt. De grootste ambitie van Miguel was om deze eeuwenoude traditie nieuw leven in te blazen.<\/p>\n<p>Three generations later, Castillo Perelada is now recognized as one of Empord\u00e0\u2019s most significant wine estates. Greek settlers established the region\u2019s first vines in the sixth century BC, giving the DO Empord\u00e0, in addition to Perelada, a long history of wine production. The Romans and then the Benedictines continued to develop these vines.
