Arteis may very well be the finest Champagne you have yet to discover. This boutique producer is crafting some exceptionally remarkable wines. These wines exhibit a powerful yet refined character, featuring vibrant citrus and green apple notes, complemented by subtle hints of almonds and brioche. It is indeed a superb bottle of sparkling wine.

2013 Vintage

Artéis & Co, emphasizing high-quality, artisanal vintage champagne, is the creation of Chef de Cave Fabien Gay (who has previously been associated with Perrier-Jouët and Mumm) and Jean-Philippe Diot, a grower from Vinay. Drawing upon their extensive experience and expertise, they sought to establish a project that honors expression and craftsmanship, rather than adhering to a conventional house style. Their goal is to produce world-class champagnes that can compete with those from the most esteemed houses, yet offer a fresher perspective at a more accessible price.

Very beautiful, pure Brut made from 40% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay, and 40% Pinot Meunier, mostly sourced from the slopes south of Epernay and complemented with reserve wines. This Champagne matures for at least 30 months on lees before disgorgement. An exceptionally fine Brut at an attractive price.

Based in Vinay, southwest of Épernay, the Diot family has had Champagne vineyards for several generations, although they have always sold all of their grapes to the major Champagne companies until a few decades ago. Jean Diot chose to launch Champagne Jean Diot as his own label at the beginning of the 1960s. When Jean’s son Jean-Philippe succeeded his father in 1998, the estate began to advance significantly.

When his father had only produced a Brut and a Rosé at first, Jean-Philippe greatly broadened the selection to include an Extra Brut, Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, and a fantastic vintage line of gastronomy wines called Artéis, in partnership with Fabien Gay. The Diot family, based in Vinay (southwest of Épernay), has owned vineyards in Champagne for several centuries, but until a few decades ago always sold all the grapes to the big Champagne houses. In the early 1960s, Jean Diot decided to start his own label: Champagne Jean Diot. In 1998, Jean’s son Jean-Philippe took over from his father, and with that the estate started to make considerable progress.

Where his father had started with only a Brut and a Rosé, Jean-Philippe expanded the range considerably, with, among other things, an Extra Brut, a Blanc de Blancs and a Blanc de Noirs and a great gastronomic vintage line in collaboration with Fabien Gay: Artéis. He also implemented the necessary innovations on the estate itself. He reorganised the vineyards (the family owns some seven hectares directly surrounding the house, and another five spread across the southern hills of Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne), built a reception room, and installed a new vinification room, which houses the pressoir and cuverie.

The grapes are grown 100% in the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay, in the Marne department, south west of Epernay. The harvest takes place manually with separation of the different parcels. During the pressing, the juices are separated. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel containers. Refermented in the bottle for a minimum period of 36 months. The only wine used to make the liqueur Ratafia champagne is Pinot Meunier. The smells of this Champagne include orange blossom, reine claude (plum), and fresh acacia honey.
